Selling

How do I register?

-When you bring in items, there will be given a form to fill out.

How do I get an item valued?

There are three ways to get an item valued,

-Email- firstly takes some pictures of your item (front, back, sides and marks) and email them to enquiries@semleyauctioneers.com with your name and a little information about your items

-Bring them in to the saleroom or offices- We offer a free verbal valuation service for items brought into the salerooms, although appointments are advised. Alternatively we have valuation days on the Thursdays and Friday (after 5pm) prior to the sale day, in which you can bring items in for our specialist to value.

-We also have valuation days in Wimborne on a Friday 10am-4pm and London Kensington 10am-4pm, appointments required in London

-Home visit valuations- Appointments to have a valuer visit you at home are easily arranged by contacting either the office at the salerooms or the London office in South Kensington.

How will I know if my item is in the next sale?

-You will get a pre-sale advice by post, a few days before the sale; this will include the lot number, the description and the reserve price of each lot that is entered.

If my item sales when will I reserve settlement?

-Sale proceeds are usually made about three weeks after the sale date, provided that full cleared payment has been received from the buyer(s) of the vendor’s lot(s).

-Sale proceeds will be made by bank transfer, unless specific arrangement has been made for payment by a different method.   Bank charges for payments to overseas accounts will be deducted from proceeds.

What is the commission?

-Commission is charged at 15% of the hammer price plus VAT at the standard rate, with a minimum commission of £8.33 plus VAT per lot.

Indemnity against loss or damage is charged at 1.5% plus VAT of the hammer price.  This indemnity is limited to the value of the pre-sale mid estimate.

-Illustrations which appear in the catalogue and/or on the websites which host the catalogues are charged at £ 18.00 plus VAT per lot, regardless of how many images are taken of each lot.  Illustrated lots which sell for less than £ 360.00 (hammer price) will be charged at 5% of the hammer price plus VAT.  Further illustrations used in additional advertising will be charged at cost.

-There are no charges for unsold lots with agreed reserves

What if my item does not sale?

-It is recommended that unsold lots are re-assigned to a later sale, usually with an adjusted reserve.

Can you pick up my items?

-Removal costs will be charged where appropriate, as agreed with the recommended carriers.  Collections made employing Semley Auctioneers’ vehicles and staff are charged at £ 26.00 plus VAT per hour for one staff and vehicle, rising to £ 39.00 plus VAT per hour for two staff and vehicle.  These charges will be deducted from sale proceeds.

Do you publish your sale results?

– No, for reasons of confidentiality we do not publish sale results. However we are happy to give results verbally.
